Cooling (spring visit)
- Check refrigerant level and pressures
- Rinse the outdoor condenser coil
- Inspect the indoor evaporator coil
- Test capacitors against their rating
- Inspect the contactor for pitting and wear
- Measure temperature drop across the coil
- Flush and clear the condensate drain line
- Check the drain pan and float safety switch
- Inspect the condenser fan motor and blade
- Clear debris and plants away from the outdoor unit
Heating (fall visit)
- Test ignition and burner operation (gas furnaces)
- Clean and check the flame sensor
- Inspect the heat exchanger and venting
- Check for gas leaks and carbon monoxide at the furnace
- Test heat strips and sequencers (electric & heat pump)
- Test the heat pump defrost cycle and reversing valve
Every visit
- Check or replace the air filter
- Inspect the blower motor and wheel
- Tighten electrical connections and check voltage
- Test thermostat calibration and operation
- Check airflow and look for obvious duct leaks

How Often Should You Service Your AC in Austin?
At least once a year for the AC, before summer. Twice a year if you want your whole system covered: cooling in spring, heating in fall.
Spring: AC Tune-Up
March through May, before the first long run of hot days. This is the big one in Central Texas, because your AC is about to work for months straight.
Summer: Filter Checks
Check your filter every month while the AC is running hard. Swap it when it looks gray and dusty. It's the cheapest maintenance there is.
Fall: Heating Tune-Up
September through November, before the first norther. Your heater has been sitting all summer, so it's worth a check before you count on it.

A Tune-Up, Not a Sales Call
Some companies use cheap tune-ups to get in the door and then hand you a list of "urgent" repairs. We don't work that way. Our techs aren't paid to upsell, and we only recommend what we'd do in our own homes.

Between visits: what you can do
- Check the filter monthly in summer and change it when it's dirty.
- Keep 2 feet of clear space around the outdoor unit.
- Keep supply vents and return grilles open and unblocked.
- Know where your indoor unit's drain line exits the house, and make sure it's dripping, not clogged, on hot days.
- Watch for water around the indoor unit or ice on the copper lines, and call us if you see either.
Leave the refrigerant, electrical, and gas work to us. That's where things get dangerous.
