Signs Your Heater Needs Repair

- Headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or unusual tiredness, especially if several people feel it and it eases when you leave the house
- A yellow or flickering burner flame instead of a steady blue one
- Soot or rust around the furnace or vent pipe
If you suspect carbon monoxide or smell gas:
- Get everyone, including pets, out of the home right away. Do not stop to open windows or look for the source.
- Once you're outside, call 911. If you smell gas, also call your gas company's emergency line.
- Don't flip light switches, use the thermostat, or start a car in an attached garage.
- Don't go back inside until emergency responders say it's safe.

Why is my heat pump blowing cold air?
It may be in a normal defrost cycle, which usually lasts only a few minutes. If cool air continues, the cause could be a failed reversing valve, low refrigerant, a defrost control problem, or heat strips that aren't kicking on. Check that the thermostat is set to "heat," then call us if it doesn't warm up.
Why does my furnace smell like it's burning?
A light dusty smell the first time you run the heat each season is normal and should fade within an hour. A strong burning, electrical, or rotten-egg smell is not. Turn the system off, and if you smell gas, leave the home and call 911 or your gas company from outside.
